Tip #6 | Info You Need If You Want To Get Signed

First of all, to tell you any specific ‘how-to technique’ that would promise you a recording contract would be telling you a lie... it can’t be done, unless of course the deal is with your own label. In truth, there is no exact way to get a deal...period. But, if you’ve been paying attention and read the earlier sections of advice in this book, then you should be well aware of what it will probably take for you to attract a major label or production company to get them interested in signing you.

We’ve suggested that you create a “buzz”, get a team, make a plan, and keep a positive mindset and attitude all with the hopeful surroundings of positive energy and people. We have also stressed getting good production help and developing your skills. As already mentioned, being ready means having your act tight before showcasing what you have to offer; giving yourself the best chance to capitalize on whatever opportunity that is eventually presented. But also know this: Getting a deal can happen by just being in the right place at the right time, or through a favored relationship, or just being very lucky. But primarily, outside of all of the “buzz” and hype you create, and whatever “noise” you can make on your own; selling a few records on your own, having a great live show, and getting a little radio support, it basically is going to boil down to you having some hot music. And it’s usually better if you have an identifiable unique sound that the people like... and A&R believes in enough to possibly risk giving you a shot. And if you have more to offer, like a network of reachable DJs, MDs at radio, a great street team, and some great promotions that have you known throughout the region (or beyond), then that’s even better....
