Getting radio play is one of the hardest things to accomplish, especially for a new act. Also, it’s hard for the majors to get radio spinning songs on established acts. So, if you’re an Independent or "Indie" label, all I can say is determination and creative marketing will definitely help. Of course, having a truckload of money won’t hurt either, but that’s a different book! ☺
Outside of making sure radio stations have your song and promo material, before you start trippin’ by hassling' radio staff, you should actually seek to get as much feedback as you can in the clubs. Clubs are a way to get an instant response of how receptive your song is to the public. If your song can keep people "doing their thang" on the dance floor, it may have a good chance of being able to compete with the hottest songs being played on radio as well. In addition, this is one of the best “accessible” ways of finding out which of your songs you want to push. It’s very easy to be in love with your own song, not only since you wrote it, but also because you’ve heard it over and over again! But when you take the chance of bumping your track in public, against the best songs that are already getting play, you will definitely get a chance to “see” what others think (by their reactions). So just know - whether good or bad, you will get some type of feedback. Most people hate to get a whack track mixed in when they are dancing. And on the positive side, it may end up being your song that floods the floor. So just know that either way, you will get a response...
